The iCabbi Women in Taxi 2026 event recently took place in Bristol, bringing together female leaders, operators, entrepreneurs and industry partners from across the UK taxi and private hire sector. Held in recognition of International Women’s Day, the event continues to grow each year and plays an important role in highlighting the contributions women make within the industry.
At Cresta Cars, we were proud to be represented at the event by some of the key women who help keep our business running smoothly. Pictured from left to right were Tasha, Operations Manager; Mandy, Director; an iCabbi representative; Agni, Drivers Manager; and Becca, General Manager. Their attendance reflected our commitment to supporting women in the transport industry and contributing to important conversations about the future of taxi services.
Conversations about ‘Women in Transport’
Now in its third year, the Women in Taxi event provides a valuable platform for women working in transport to share their experiences, discuss challenges and explore opportunities within the sector. With more than 70 attendees present at the Bristol event, it was clear that the conversation around diversity and inclusion within the taxi and private hire industry is becoming increasingly important.

The event included a gala lunch followed by two engaging panel discussions focused on the experiences of women in the taxi industry and the future of mobility. Industry professionals from a range of organisations took part in the discussions, sharing their insights and perspectives on how the sector can continue to evolve.
One of the key topics discussed was the importance of understanding gender perspectives in transportation. Speakers highlighted how transport systems and urban planning can sometimes overlook the needs and experiences of women. By recognising these perspectives, the taxi and private hire industry has an opportunity to play a leading role in developing mobility solutions that work for everyone.
Encouraging more women in the taxi industry
Safety was another important topic raised during the event. Ensuring that both drivers and passengers feel safe is a priority across the industry. Encouraging more women to become taxi or private hire drivers was also widely discussed. Currently, women represent only around 3% of taxi and private hire drivers in the UK, making it one of the most male-dominated professions within the transport sector.
Industry leaders shared ideas on how taxi companies and fleets can make the profession more accessible and appealing to women. This includes improving awareness of career opportunities, providing supportive working environments and highlighting the flexibility that working in the taxi industry can offer.
The future of mobility and taxi services
The second panel discussion focused on the future of the taxi and private hire industry, including how emerging technologies could shape the sector in the years ahead. Artificial intelligence, mobility technology and even the possibility of autonomous vehicles were all part of the conversation.

While technology continues to evolve, one thing that remains clear is the importance of local taxi companies within their communities. Taxi and private hire services combine modern technology with local knowledge, trusted relationships and reliable customer service. These qualities continue to set taxis apart in an increasingly competitive mobility landscape.
Cresta Cars supporting a stronger industry
At Cresta Cars, we recognise the importance of supporting diversity within the industry and celebrating the role women play in transport. Encouraging more women to join the taxi and private hire sector can help strengthen the industry while providing new opportunities for future generations.
Events like Women in Taxi are an important reminder that the future of mobility should include voices from across the industry. By supporting inclusion, innovation and collaboration, the taxi and private hire sector can continue to grow while better serving communities across the UK.
As the industry evolves, Cresta Cars remains proud to be part of a sector that values progress, community and opportunity for all.
